San Diego Weekend Getaway

There’s nothing like a quick weekend getaway to recharge and to just get away from life for a few days! With the way my life has been (life update blog post coming soon) a few days away in San Diego was just what we needed! We had been planning to go to San Diego for a couple months and we thought Memorial Day would be the perfect time to go! I had only been to San Diego one time before and it was when I was in my early 20’s so this trip was much more memorable and much more fun! We went down with no real plans except to just relax and enjoy each other, we did know there were places we would like to go but we weren’t really strict with it and we ended up doing everything we wanted! We kinda lucked out because it was NBA Conference Finals which we both like watching together, so every night we had a game to watch and it was fun to pick where we would watch it at! All in all it was a fun weekend of eating, drinking, beach going, eating and drinking more and just having fun with each other and escaping for a few days!

We got to San Diego early afternoon and arrived at our hotel, we stayed at the Sofia Hotel Downtown just outside the Gaslamp District which was perfect because we were able to walk to the Gaslamp which is where we spent every night!

Once we got to the hotel we had lunch at there restaurant/ bar Currant it was really good and we ended up gong back just for drinks Sunday night. After lunch we recharged and then got ready, we ended roaming 5th street in the Gaslamp and there were SO many fun bars we kinda bounced around and had drinks at a couple places before we ended up at El Chingon where we got a appetizer and drinks! I found this place on Instagram places because there drinks looked amazing and it definitely did not disappoint! Once we got there I decided I had to have the margarita flight because….why not?!

After El Chingon we went to a couple other bars and then ended up a couple hours later at Osetra for one last drink before heading back to the room and we decided to have Oysters there too…that became a staple for the weekend, we had Oysters everyday we were there! We went to Osetra again on Sunday afternoon too because we were on a Oyster mission so we decided to go back. We said next time we would have dinner there because their seafood bar looked so good!!!

Saturday morning we decided we would go to Ocean Beach for Fish tacos from South Beach Bar and Grille  and they did not disappoint it was the one place on our list that we knew we really wanted to try and go to and I am so glad we did! From there we went to Old Town which was also fun we went to a couple bars/restaurants there one of which was recommended by the concierge at the hotel and we loved it, we roamed the area and looked at all the fun handmade stuff and even picked up a little cactus and nice painted pot to put it in! It was such fun day. We went back to a sports bar to watch the Warrior game and hang out before dinner. We knew before we went down that we wanted to go to a really nice dinner one night and we picked McCormick and Schmicks. I think we both decided that it was one of the best dinners we’ve had yet definitely in our top 3 places.

Sunday Morning we knew we wanted to go to Pacific Beach. We parked and just kinda walked around we went to Backyard Kitchen and Tap for mimosas and lunch! They had the coolest mimosa flight so I of course keeping with the theme of the weekend had to get it! After we left there we went down to the beach area to walk around for awhile, there were so many people out just enjoying the day. We left Pacific Beach and went back to the Gaslamp district to go to our oyster spot and to find a bar to watch the game. We were on a mission to find a good pizza place in little Italy for dinner. We found a place called Bronx Pizzeria it was the BEST pizza ever, We got a little excited and ended up getting 8 different slices and a calzone….we didn’t even touch the calzone because we were so full after the pizza but it looked amazing. We had so much fun on Sunday and were so sad that it was our last day there. Since getting back we’ve probably brought up going back down every other day, another trip will be happening very soon!

The Perfect Maxi Dress

Dress and Similar Styles: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. – The Best Part is they are all under $55

Clutch: Gigi New York – Can be personalized with Intials

Accessories: Stella & Dot

I absolutely love a good Maxi Dress and I pretty much live in them year round…well maybe not so much in December and January but if I could I would! My newest obsession is long sleeve Maxis because you can dress them up or dress them down. I love them for weddings especially because they are so comfortable! I usually wear wedges with them but if I’m being honest I always carry flats in my purse so I can change later because I can never last longer than a few hours in heels or wedges! Another win for this maxi is its long enough to hide your shoes if you need to….and I always need to! I love everything about this dress and for the price you really can’t beat it!

When I saw that this dress was on MAJOR discount (It is selling quickly) I had to do a blog post on it, it is the perfect dress for a fancy date night. Whenever I have a event to go to the first place I will usually shop for a dress is BCBG because lets be honest…they have the best dresses, they can be a little costly but they are so worth it! I will link a couple of my other favorite dresses from BCBG also! I think I love their dresses so much because the quality is always great and they just fit so amazing! As always all of my accessories are Stella & Dot and as usual I can’t stop wearing the Pegasus necklace!

Olivia Pope Style – Business Casual Look

If you are familiar with the TV Show Scandal then you know who Olivia Pope is. I look forward every week to seeing what outfits she will be wearing!  When it comes to dressing Business casual I usually go by one thing: What would Olivia Pope wear? I feel like anything she wears you can’t go wrong! I love everything about her fashion except for the price! I guess when you have ABC paying for your wardrobe anything goes. The one thing I love about her fashion is the coats and blazers and of course the big handbags! She doesn’t wear a ton of color so that is where we are opposite (although this season she has been wearing a lot more color) because I love color so when I saw this red BCBG blazer I had to have it! I also love stripes and this shirt paired so well with the red blazer I knew it would photograph well. My new obsession is accessories which makes sense since I am a Stella and Dot Stylist! I had so much fun picking accessories for this look and though a big statement necklace would be perfect to bring it all together. I love dressing business casual…probably because I don’t have to do it everyday!

I’m Back!!! Here’s What I’ve Been up to!

Ahhhhh I have been so MIA lately!! I have been so busy with other projects that I haven’t had a chance to blog! I absolutely love blogging and will be making time in my week to get at least a blog post up every week! In the mean time let me tell you what I have been up too!

As you know I own an online shop Ruffles with Love the last couple weeks I have been busy releasing 2 new lines the RWL Sport line and the RWL Boutique Line  I love what I do and love that there are so many possibilities in my business. Both of these new lines are so fun for me because it gives me the chance to shop for what I think you all may like,  it also lets me get creative with my own style and focus on whats trending at the moment which I love! Fashion is one of my favorite things so getting to incorporate more trendy and sporty lines is so fun for me! Here a couple of my favorites from each of the new lines:

In addition to working on the new lines I have been busy with Stella & Dot and really focusing on creating and growing a team and hosting trunk shows! I absolutely love Stella & Dot jewelry and I love doing trunk shows and getting to hang out with and meet people! I am also having so much fun styling the jewelry and really getting more into being a stylist.

Lastly I have joined a group called  WWOW which stands for Winning with Other Women. It is a group of women that really believe in and practice supporting other women! I have been apart of this group for the last couple months and I am loving it! In addition to supporting and empowering each other we also do events for the community.  Last month we did a Prom Dress event where we collected prom dresses that people donated and had a event where girls that may not have been able to attend prom due to financial reasons could come and pick a dress at no cost to them. We also gave the girls that attended a chance to win a glam squad for the day of their prom. It was such a awesome feeling to put a smile on these girls faces and give them the chance to experience something that everyone should get the chance to experience. We will be doing a lot of other community events coming up and I can’t wait to be apart of them! I was also asked to do a clothing line for WWOW which I am so excited about! Check it out HERE I have met some amazing women in this group and I am truly blessed to be apart of something like this.

My Current Makeup Obsessions

I have a major obsession right now with makeup! I’ve always loved makeup but now that I actually know how to do it, I will probably never pay to have my makeup done again! When it comes to makeup for me I have 2 – 3 looks that are my go to and I am trying to leave my comfort zone and try out a bunch of new looks as far as the brighter and bold looks go! I always go with a more natural look, a fancier more natural look or a dark smokey eye!  Here are a couple of things I have learned that I stick to when doing my makeup and  I will list my favorite products below that!

  1. ALWAYS use a primer. I have learned that using a primer is a game changer, it helps foundation and concealer go on so smooth and helps everything blend better! My current primer favorite is Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Foundation Primer
  2. I usually do foundation, concealer, brows than eye makeup but I change up the order of that when I do the dark smokey eye because when using black eye shadow there is always fall out and you don’t want to spend time doing your face makeup and then have to take it off or touch it up because dark colors are almost impossible to get off.
  3. Putting a dot of concealer under each eyebrow after doing your brows and using an eyebrow brush for clean up completely changes the look of your eyebrows and makes them really pop it also highlights the brow bone so it’s kind of a 2 in 1. My favorite concealer right now is the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
  4. I LOVE highlighting and I think I have at least 6 highlighter palettes. When it comes to highlighting, I try to not over do it which honestly is not easy! I usually highlight right above my blush and most highlighters you need minimal product because a little goes a long way! I also highlight the top of my nose and my cupids bow. Highlighting is usually my last step! My favorite highlighter right now is the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Filmstar Bronze & Glow’ Face Sculpt & Highlight and for a more affordable option I love the Nude Rose Highlight – 4 Color Highlighter Palette

Here are my products I can’t live without:

Foundation – For a matte look HOURGLASS Immaculate® Mattifying Oil Free Liquid Powder Foundation for a more dewey look I love NARS Sheer Glow Foundation I apply my foundation and concealer with a Beauty Blender! I will probably never use a foundation brush again! I love the beauty blender.

Eye Makeup – I love the Urban Decay ‘Naked2’ Palette because it has so many good colors that you can use for a more natural day time look or a more glam night look. If you like glitter a MUST is the Urban Decay ‘Heavy Metal’ Glitter Eyeliner it’s a liner but I don’t use it as a liner, I use it and just dab it over my finished eyeshadow look, the glitter won’t flake or anything because it’s a liquid formula. It is the BEST and I always get asked what I am wearing. I have this in midnight cowboy and in glam rock.

Blush – I really only use one blush and I don’t think I will ever not use this blush! It is the MAC Mineralize Blush in the color Love Joy

Eyelashes – I absolutely love lashes I feel like they complete every look. I also love to throw lashes and lipstick on and call it a day for a more simple day, it just makes you look more put together! My got to lashes are ARDELL Glamour Wispies Black Lashes The wispies are my favorite because they have a more natural look!

Lips – I am currently obsessed with a nude lip look so my go to for liner is the  Mac Lip Pencil in the color cork and my favorite lipstick is MAC Nude Lipstick in the color Naturally Transformed, it is a matte color and it is amazing. I literally bought 5 the last time I was there. It’s my all time FAVORITE. If I decide to do a bright lip (pic below) I will go with MAC Red Lipstick in Lady Danger.

Setting Spray – Once I am done with my makeup I always use a setting spray, it helps it last for HOURS and helps everything kinda blend together and just completes the look. My favorite setting spray is Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

I hope you enjoyed this post and if there is anything you have questions about or products you use and think I would love let me know! I love trying new makeup!

Ruffles with Love turns 5

Wanted to do a quick video to say thank you to all of you for allowing me to do what I love!

Ahhh so many emotions come with this blog post! Ruffles with Love has turned 5!! I can not believe that I have a business that is 5 years old! It feels like just yesterday that I set up a Etsy store and now I have my own domain and website and everything that comes with that. I had no idea what to expect when I started this business. I originally started this business in the beginning of 2012 to save for my wedding that was in November of 2012. when I first started I was selling pillows that had ruffles on them (hence the name Ruffles with Love) that I was sewing and making picture frames. One day I was roaming around the fabric store and came across the t-shirt aisle and this aqua shirt was just calling my name. I have always had fun putting together colors that you probably wouldn’t necessarily think go together, the first color that came to mind was neon orange and magenta. I should also add that bows have always been one of my favorite things. In my younger years seeing me without a bow just didn’t happen. So I knew that if I was going to make shirts I had to incorporate bows one way or another! In getting ready for my wedding hitting the gym every now and again wouldn’t hurt so I decided to make a workout shirt.! I cut off the sleeves and made my own creation twisting the back, adding lettering to the front and of course adding the signature bow! My first tank was my Break a Sweat tank.
break-a-sweat-1                     fullsizerender-92
I took a picture of it and posted it on Esty and it sold within an hour! I never even got to wear it! I was so shocked that it sold that fast that I had to hold on to the original and went back to the fabric store to get the supplies to fulfill my first shirt order! I still own the original as you can see in the picture above I framed it and it is hanging in my office and whenever I have a creativity block that shirt gives me inspiration. Shortly after my first sale I was contacted by Mama Laughlin who at the time was starting her fitness blog and she wanted to review a couple shirts.I had no idea what I was doing and I remember sending her a few and she posted them on her social media and all of a sudden I was getting orders like crazy! I was SO overwhelmed, I had a full time job and coached soccer at the time.
I enlisted anyone that offered help at the time! My weekends when not on the soccer field were spent at my parents house and we had an assembly line going that went well past midnight Friday, Saturday and Sunday! I had such a awesome support system and I am truly thankful to my family and friends that believed in my business even then to give so much time to it. I do want to mention that Mama Laughlin (Brandi) and I are still in contact in fact we were just emailing today! She will always be someone that I keep in contact with and root for in life because she believed in me and supported me from the beginning!
This post could get REAL long so I just want to fast forward 5 years and say that I am truly grateful for all of you that have supported me and watched me grow over the past 5 years! It’s not easy but it is definitely worth it! I have built so many relationships with many of you and consider many of you to be close friends, several of you have gotten me through some tough times over the past 5 years by offering your life experiences and advice. I have cried with some of you during times that were hard and laughed in the good times. This business has truly been a blessing for me and I LOVE what I have built and what I do! So thank you, because without all of you I wouldn’t have made it 5 years!
So whats to come for 2017 you ask? A LOT!!!! For starters my blog is something I will be spending a lot of time on! I plan to do a lot of fashion and makeup posts and some tutorials! I recently just started as a Stella and Dot Stylist as the jewelry pairs perfectly with shirts, so look forward to seeing some fun outfit inspiration in the upcoming year in addition to that if any of you are interested in joining my team please let me know! I was lucky enough to be presented an opportunity to be featured in their catalog and on their website.stella-dot-pic-3.  Needless to say I have big plans for 2017 and I can’t wait for you to be by side!

Fall Feast: Friendsgiving 2016

Friendsgiving is definitely becoming one of my favorite traditions. This year we hosted our 2nd one and it was SO much fun! I am writing this blog post 3 days after Friendsgiving and my voice is still not all the way back. If you follow me on snapchat (vherm02) than you know what I’m talking about, I sound like a 13 year old boy going through puberty. We had about 30 people and it was the best group of people. Both my husband and I love to host parties and we are getting to the point where all of our groups of friends are getting to know each other because they have met and hung out at previous parties. The phrase “Friends become Family” is so true for us. We are blessed to have some amazing people in our life and having them all under one roof  was so awesome.

I started really getting everything together on Friday…I know kinda last minute for a Saturday party but the awesome thing about friendsgiving is that we don’t have to cook everything because people bring the sides. We do the turkey, the stuffing and the gravy (i’ll talk about that story later). Because of the amount of people we needed 2 turkeys this year and my friend/neighbor did a turkey too. So Friday morning Gina and I went to Costco for the essentials….I should mention we also had a keg!

I didn’t have to really do to much besides that on Friday. I basically just had to make sure the bar was was stocked and we had everything we needed. Saturday Evan and I started prepping the turkey around 10:30am this was our 2nd year so we aren’t pros at this quite yet we just threw a bunch of spices and watched Chrissy Teigens Instagram of her prepping her turkey last year 1000 times. I think it turned it out really well…do you want to know what didn’t turn out really well…the gravy! I completely underestimated making gravy! I feel like I had to have made it last year but don’t remember doing it. It took about 6 of us to try and make the gravy and everyone had tips on how to do or had watched a family member make it but had never really made it before. Luckily my neighbor Lucy came in and saved the day!

img_4602                    img_4599  img_4601                                                img_4598

After Dinner the fun begins! If you’ve never had twerking lessons at Friendsgiving you haven’t been to a Hermanson Friendsgiving…when I say best party EVER I mean it! Friendsgiving I really feel should be something everyone does we are so blessed to have all of these people in our lives and it really makes me appreciate the friendships that I have!
